A Proverbs 31 Woman

So there is this amazing christian radio station that I listen to called KLOVE. This week there is this contest to call in and tell them about who your uncommon hero is in your life. Well I have been thinking about calling in but I haven't. But last semester in my English class we wrote a paper about our heroes in our lives, so I chose my grandmother. So I would like to share with you the paper I wrote about my grandmother.

Gayle Winstead

“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:29-30. This quote is a couple verses from the Bible. Proverbs 31 talks about a strong woman who provides for her family and is highly honored and praised by her family and others around her. Gayle Winstead, who is in her seventies, is a lot like this woman in many ways. She is a daughter, a wife, a mother to five children: Karen, Pam, Terri, Jerald, and Roger. She is a grandmother to eleven: Travis, Sara, Mindy, Neil, Chance, Carla, Dylan, Lucas, Owen, Samantha. She is also a great grandmother to Braxton, Brodie, and more to come. Gayle Winstead is dedicated and sacrifices for her family and others, stands strong in her faith, and is a reliable woman.

Gayle is dedicated and sacrifices for her family and others. She has opened her home many times to family when they do not have a place to stay. One time she opened her home for a few months to one of her daughters Terri, and her two children Mindy and Carla after her husband Mark passed away and were moving and between houses. They lived in another state but were moving back to Indiana and had not found a house to live in. She has also had one of her sons Roger moves back in, when he needed a place to stay. Also whenever family is in town, they usually stay at her home. She also helps her friends who are sick, and will sit with them if they need company or someone to help them through the day. If they need a meal cooked for them, she will. She will sit and pray with her sick friends when they need company. Also, Gayle and her sister Nancy help take care of their ninety-four year-old mother Helen. They will take her to doctor’s appointments and help with things around the house. Gayle also will stay home with sick grandchildren if their parents are not able to take off from work.

She is a woman who stands strong in her faith. Gayle has always taught Sunday school in her church for the toddlers’ class. Now she is teaching for the pre-school Sunday school class. She is also very involved in her home church. She helps cook for events, takes care of the fish that were in the pond for the prayer garden, and helps plan get-together s. She is also one who shares her faith with her family in a kind and generous way.

Finally, she is reliable whenever someone needs her. Gayle is one who puts everyone’s need before hers. She will do anything for her family no matter what. Gayle is there for anyone at anytime of the day. She has stayed up sitting with one of her granddaughters making waffles when she was upset about something. She loves to spend time with her grandchildren and to support them. She goes to all of her grandchildren’s games, band competitions, and graduations. She is always there to support her family. She will always be there for a game to cheer her family on. If she told someone that she will be there for them, she will be there no matter what. She will never go back on her word.

Gayle Winstead may not be a famous known hero to others, but to her grandchildren and children she is a hero. Gayle enjoys being around people and supporting them with all they do. To many she is valued and praised for her sacrifices, her faith and her being reliable.
